Ethel Sykes
Ethel Sykes, originally from Inverness, MS, relocated to Chicago in the late 1950's and has been a valued member of CMBC for 42 yrs.
She was married to the late beloved Ollie Sykes for nearly 42 yrs and they have a son, Gerald. After the death of her parents, they raised her two sisters, Lue Esther and Rena, lovingly as their own daughters. Ethel worked for 25 years before retiring from the Federal Reserve Bank Of Chicago. There's no secret that she truly loves the Lord. She has worked tirelessly as a trustee, Sunday School Teacher and also managed the kitchen for many years. She was a very gifted seamstress and currently enjoys traveling, crocheting, reading and bowling.
Raymond & Lue Esther Ester Meyers
Married for 17 years, they have been very dedicated, active CMBC members for about 40 years. Raymond was born in Chicago while Lue relocated from Inverness, MS. She has a daughter, Katherine Monique Courtenay-Perkins (Derek). Their precious granddaughter, Joi is also a CMBC member. Raymond serves as a trustee, sings in both the Gospel and Male Choirs, and is a Sunday School Teacher. He works at Mercy Hospital and has been a model employee for 17 years. Lue currently serves as a Sunday School Teacher, sings in two choirs, and is an avid learner who worked at Mt. Sinai and other hospitals for 21 years as a nurse. She specialized in the fields of Geriatrics, Pediatrics, ER, Labor & Delivery and Family Practice. She enjoys swimming, traveling, and her newest hobby, talented Jewelry designer/maker is very pleasing to the ladies of the Church!
Joi Courtenay
Joi joined CMBC at a young age, and has attended since her birth in 1999. She serves faithfully. Her loving parents Katherine Monique and Derek are very supportive and are extended family to the Church. Joi serves as a Jr Usher Board member, VP of the Praise Dance Team, sings in the Youth Choir, and is a Vacation Bible School Teacher. Her focus is on loving the Lord, her family, CMBC family and making her transition from grammar school to middle school.
Mable Cartlidge
Mable Cartlidge is the aunt of sisters Ethel Sykes and Lue Meyers through marriage to their deceased uncle, her beloved husband, Hosey Cartlidge. She has a daughter, Jacqueline Bradford and Stepson, Michael Cartlidge. Mable worked 34 years as a devoted teacher with the Chicago Public Schools. She joined CMBC in Aug. 1994, and works tirelessly as Secretary of the Sr Usher Board and served as Chairperson of the CMBC Finance Committee for 10 years. Mable enjoys tennis, bowling, golf, traveling, reading, and searching the web. She inspires all who are around her. She has a special love and commitment to God, her family, including her Church Family, who are the most important aspects of her life.
This family has set great standards for their lives, the first is loving God and others. We salute them and are blessed and better because they are here at CMBC doing God's work!
