Sister Mary Lee Carter was chosen to be our September Member of The Month but God decided it was time for her to descend into his heavenly kingdom on August 16, 2015. She had a long relationship with the Lord and the Church. She served faithfully under the leadership of the late Pastor John Taylor and current Pastor, Rev. Robert E. Harper, until her health began to fail.
Loving the Lord and having a strong commitment to the Church, Mary was one of the original founders, a proud charter member of CMBC. She was married to James Carter, who preceded her in death after 30 precious years.
Sister Carter worked diligently to acquire building funds by organizing and participating in Church fashion shows, dinners, raffles and by soliciting the help of family, friends and co-workers. Her hard work with the assistance of her fellow founders was successful and paid off. The result was that CMBC was able to move from a basement location to a small store-front church located at 71st & Halsted St. to our beautiful current location.
At CMBC, Sister Carter has served as an active member of the Gospel Choir, the Senior Club, the Mission Ministry and offered support to various other church auxiliaries. In the community, she worked as a volunteer in the Gift Shop at the "Atlas Center" of the Dept on Aging, and regularly visited nursing homes where she brought good cheer and comfort to others.
Sister Carter lived her life in such a manner that touched many of us with her loving kindness, warmth and acceptance. She will forever be remembered for her service and dedication and for her charisma, beautiful smile, and her classy style of dressing.
The Lord has accepted into his presence a good and faithful servant and she will truly be missed. The CMBC family loved and appreciated Sister Mary Lee Carter, but God loved her best. May she rest in heaven.
