Christian Missionary Baptist Church (CMBC) would like to honor Darren & Valerie Shannon by naming them as “The Members of the Month” for November 2011.
Darren and Valerie Shannon have been members of CMBC for 37 years.
Early on, Valerie was part of the Young Adult Choir and Junior Usher Board. She currently is a member of the Inspirational Choir also known as the "Inspire Choir"; Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Choir Supervisor, and new member intake secretary. Valerie was employed with the Chicago Park District for 12 years until she retired in 2008. Valerie currently works for the Chicago Public Schools and has been employed with them for 14 years.
Darren was a part of CMBC’s Big Brother and Big Sister Club and currently serves as counter for our Finance Room. For the last several years, Darren has volunteered in our Holiday Basket Give-Away Ministry. Darren is a proactive and faithful member of that ministry. He has been instrumental in changing how baskets are handed out. That change has helped the process move more efficiently and allows for more baskets to be distributed to needy families. Darren is known as "Mr. Park District" by his family and friends because he is so dedicated and loyal to the job.
Darren and Valerie were united in Holy Matrimony at CMBC by our first Pastor Rev. John Taylor. They have been married for 19 years and have three lovely children Deonte, Antoinette and Darren Jr. Deonte is currently away at school in Oklahoma pursuing his education. Antoinette currently serves as a Chicago Police Officer "Protecting and Serving Our Community". Darren Jr., also known as Little Ty, is the youngest Junior Usher at CMBC. Darren Jr., is also a member of the Youth Choir and a drummer in training.
Darren and Valerie love spending quality time together as well as time with their families. In spending time with their families they are dedicated and loyal to taking care of their two widow mothers.
They love swimming, going to the movies and bowling. Darren and Valerie truly love God and enjoy reading and studying together. Their favorite bible verse is Philippians 4:13 (I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.)
Darren and Valerie have kind hearts; are loving people, helpful, love to help children, involved in making a change in their community, support their current Pastor Rev. R.E. Harper & Church Congregation and are the epitome of spirit filled people.
Our CMBC family is better and blessed because Darren and Valerie Shannon are here.
